Grosnez Castle

Grosnez Castle is thought to have been built in the 13th or 14th centuries. The castle is a ruin, but stands boldly on guard against the French terror that used to raid and pillage the Isle of Jersey hundreds of years ago (last attack 1781). It is said that many of the farm walls and field boundries close by include some of the castle's stones.

Corner of Charing Cross

According to a 2006 report
"Fish and chips on benches at the "bomb site" at Charing Cross could make way for the restoration of an old part of St Helier ... The States decided that it was more important to restore the "little historic gem" around Charing Cross than it was to retain the vacant site as open space. ... St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft asked Members to agree that the empty site on the intersection of York Street and Dumaresq Street should stay. ... He called the site a small square and suggested it be reinvented with trees, a new mural and perhaps a large chess board. ... but Members voted 33 to 11 against designating the area an important open space. ... They said that allowing building on the site could be the catalyst for the restoration of the old buildings in Dumaresq Street.

Well it looks to have survived so far as an open space.
